I’m writing this on Tuesday, November 8 although by the time I post it the election will presumably be over.
I’ve voted. Now I’m trying to not watch the results as polls start to close. I’ll go to bed at my usual time (ridiculously early FYI) and wake up tomorrow to see what there is to see.
No matter the results,I’m not happy about this election. Yes, I was pretty geeked to vote for a woman for President (there – in case you didn’t already, you now know where I stand). But from the primaries this election has revealed that there’s a lot of hate and anger and fear in this country and it’s been festering there for a long time.
And now the question is, what are we going to do about it? Because no matter the results of this election, it’s not going to go away.
I mean the anger of Black Americans who fear for their lives with every encounter with the police. I mean the anger of Americans who are Muslim who fear for their lives when they openly practice their religion in this country founded on religious freedom. I mean the fear of darker skinned Americans and Americans who love someone of the same sex and American women whose bodies are still objectified. And, yes, I mean the anger of white, middle class folks who are afraid for their jobs and their beliefs.
So, yea, there’s plenty of fear and anger to go around.
No matter what the state of the State is tomorrow morning, we’re going to have to deal with that.
I don’t know how exactly, but I’m sure I’ll be pondering it in the days and weeks ahead.
We have a lot of work to do.

I am a Canadian. I watched the election last night with some friends, some American, some
Canadian. We were all worried. And scared. I won’t go into the concerns discussed, but your comments are spot on. I am frightened for Americans. I am frightened for Canadians. I am frightened for the world. We, all of us, need to come from a place where we recognize our shared humanity. A place that we all have, a place of kindness and compassion.

Thanks for expressing what I’m feeling this morning.

Thank you for expressing what I was feeling this morning. I worry that the fear is just beginning. My husband woke up in tears this morning at 3am. He had a dream that he and I were being rounded up and sent off to a camp. I worry that many children and adults in our nation will have nightmares. My Momma has refused to watch the news this morning. She’s turned her TV to QVC. She’s afraid to change the channel, but she can’t afford to continue watching QVC. She did say that she’s bought a really bright flashlight, a shoe rack and some cute boots.
